Radio fire ignited to burn Savage ban

A well-known right-leaning radio firebrand whose face has become a staple on cable TV news shows has vowed to speak out against the U.K.'s blacklisting of Michael Savage – and he's demanding that the nation's talkers join him.

host of 700 WLW who replaced Matt Drudge on the Sunday night Premiere Radio Network talk show, is best known for being scolded by John McCain after he referred to President Obama as "Barack Hussein Obama" during the presidential campaigns. He pledged Sunday to talk about Britain's ban every week on his live show, aired in more than 200 markets, until the U.K. removes Savage's name from its blacklist.

"If the kings and queens of talk radio do not arise and stand with Michael Savage, they're going to start picking us off one at a time," Cunningham told WND. "If we don't stand with Michael, there'll be no one left to stand with each of us when the FCC or the British government or the American government comes after us. I see it as personal because if Michael Savage falls, who are they going to pick on next?"

Cunningham pledged, "Every Sunday between now and the end of time, I will talk about Michael Savage, support Michael Savage and encourage boycotts of everything British until they free Savage from this fatwa that was issued by the British government."

U.K. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith defended her decision to ban Savage Tuesday, saying, "In his radio broadcasts, Mr. Savage has spoken about killing 100 million Muslims, and he has spoken in violent terms about homosexuals."

The U.K. list also includes Hamas leader Yunis Al-Astal, former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard Stephen Donald Black, neo-Nazi Erich Gliebe and radical American pastor Fred Phelps, known for his virulent anti-gay protests at funerals. Phelps' daughter Shirley Phelps-Roper also is on the list. But Cunningham said he believes it is outrageous to link Savage with members of the Ku Klux Klan and radical Islamists.

"Michael Savage in his life has never committed a violent act against anybody. He doesn't encourage or incite violence," he said. "All Michael Savage does is make me think. The thought police, whether in Britain or in America, should leave free-thinkers like Michael Savage alone."

Cunningham said he wishes the kings and queens of talk radio would speak up for Savage because he believes the British government or the FCC will target them next.

Asked why he thinks the nation's talk radio hosts haven't already voiced their support for Savage, he replied, "I think there are two reasons: One is competition. Maybe they think that if Michael Savage leaves the airwaves it'll give them more time clearances on more stations. I think that is short-sighted. Secondly, Michael Savage is a bit radioactive, and they don't want to engender commercial boycotts of their own shows."

But Cunningham said Fox News' Sean Hannity is a good friend of his, and he fully intends to address the issue with the radio and television host.

"The next time I talk to Sean, I'm going to ask him why he hasn't spoken up for Savage," he said.

While Cunningham said he hopes the Obama administration would be courageous enough to come to the defense of Savage, he doesn't think it will happen.

"I guarantee that if the British government had issued a fatwa against left-leaning politicians, if it had banned Ed Schultz who sits in the front row of Obama's news conferences, I bet the Obama administration would get the ban lifted," he said.

"But because it's Michael Savage, who's on the opposite side of the political spectrum as Obama, they keep their damn mouths shut."

He said the "Clintonistas" and the "Obamamaniacs" are working together to marginalize talk radio, and regardless of Savage's appeal to Hillary Clinton to call on the British government to withdraw the ban, the secretary of state is unlikely to act.

"That is a voice crying in the wilderness because Hillary and Obama want people like Savage to shut up," he said. "In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if before they did this, somebody in Gordon Brown's administration contacted Washington and told them, 'Hey, we're about to do this to one of your talk-show hosts,' and they said, 'Go get him. Let's see if it works. Let's see if the talk radio community will shut up.'"

On his website, Savage is appealing to his listeners to contribute to his legal fund as he considers action against the home secretary. Cunningham said listeners should also boycott Britain. He and his wife had planned to go to London in September, but they canceled the trip after the blacklist was released.

In the meantime, Cunningham will continue to demand an apology from Jacqui Smith and the U.K. – every Sunday on his show until the ban is lifted.

"I don't agree with some things Michael Savage says, but I will fight to the death for his right to say it," he said. "That's the essence of the First Amendment. He may say some things that I wouldn't say, but damn it, he's got the right to say it."

Letters from England

Like most socialist women (men of the same ilk are far worse) Jacqui Smith is of such low common account as to make her difficult to designate as a worth-while enemy.

She is a faceless bureaucrat straight out of Kafka's minor-ultra-minor league. Long ago we had in Britain creatures far worse. This was the Rosa Kleb commissar variety (see Ian Fleming's From Russia with Love).

They were all built like the proverbial brick sh**house, and the slab faced Claire Short is perhaps the last one of such. No wonder their mutilated and abused hu s bands are driven to either suicide, fraud, madness, or pornography.

Jacqui Smith could just about manage a squad of school dinner ladies, may God bless them all. A telephone answering machine would make a better government minister. These creatures come up through any and every kind o f worthy committee and local debating society. Like the beloved social workers, they have little or no education and their mental level is just about zero. Over promoted, they are just about capable of discussing the state of the roads, the height of hedgerows, and the price of clothing pegs. Their heavily communised social-democratic brains are stuffed with little more th an straw.

The absence of almost all intellectual opposition in this case is most suspicious and peculiar. Thus do we see our children corrupted with little opposition. How have we been made to tolerate this situation? Through Hermaphroditic Media in the main, but that's a story for another time, and it a tale which makes Art Greefield's Retoids appeaar tame by comparison.

If this is the face of the so-called proletarian revolution, then we have a battle on our hands worse than terrorism.

REGULAR LISTENERS OF THE SAVAGE NATION WILL REMEMBER WHEN A FEW WEEKS BACK IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF JANET NAPOLITANO, BIG SIS, ISSUED A REPORT SAYING THAT THOSE WHO WERE OPPOSED TO ABORTION, OPPOSED TO GAY MARRIAGE, AND RETURNING WAR VETERANS WERE ALL SUSPICIOUS RIGHT-WING EXTREMISTS AND SHOULD BE CAREFULLY MONITORED AS SUSPECTED TERRORISTS. WELL IT LOOKS LIKE BIG SIS JUST GOT DISSED.

NAPOLITANO HAD TO GO BEFORE A CONGRESSIONAL HEARING THIS WEEK, THE HOUSE HOMELAND SECURITY COMMITTEE. AND DURING THAT COMMITTEE HEARING SHE WAS ROUNDLY CRITICIZED BY BOTH REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS FOR ISSUING THAT REPORT. REPRESENTATIVE CHRISTOPHER CARNEY, A DEMOCRAT FROM PENNSYLVANIA WHO IS A VETERAN, SAID THAT HE TOOK OFFENSE PERSONALLY, AND THAT HIS CONSTITUENTS WERE OFFENDED BY THE REPORT AS WELL. LISTEN TO HIS OWN WORDS.

JANET NAPOLITANO SAID THAT THE REPORT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN AND CLAIMED THAT AN EMPLOYEE SENT IT OUT WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION. WHAT’S INTERESTING IS WHEN ASKED WHETHER THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR ISSUING THIS REPORT WAS STILL EMPLOYED WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY, NAPOLITANO GAVE AN EVASIVE ANSWER. LISTEN TO THIS.

SO WE DON’T KNOW IF THERE WILL BE TRUE ACCOUNTABILITY IN THIS CASE OR NOT. PRESUMABLY THE EMPLOYEE HAS JUST BEEN TRANSFERRED TO A DIFFERENT DEPARTMENT. BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THIS IS A HUGE VICTORY FOR TALK RADIO. THE SAVAGE NATION AND MANY SHOWS ACROSS THE COUNTRY REALIZED THAT THIS WAS A HUGE EFFORT TO TARGET THOSE WITH CONSERVATIVE VIEWS. THE IRON LADY OF ENGLAND WON THE FAUKLANDS WAR AGAINST ARGENTINA AND FINALLY BEGAN TO SLOW THE ADVANCE OF LEFTISM THAT HAD CONSUMED ENGLAND SINCE THE END OF WORLD WAR 2. BUT AFTER SHE LEFT OFFICE, THE GLIB TONY BLAIR AND HIS LABOUR PARTY ROSE TO POWER, DEPICTING HIMSELF AS A MODERATE. AND NOW, THE GOVERNMENT DECISION TO BAN ME FROM THE COUNTRY SEEMS TO BE THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMEL’S BACK. BORIS JOHNSON HAS USED THE INCIDENT AS A RALLYING CRY TO HIS OWN PARTY. GORDON BROWN HAS BEEN FORCED TO APOLOGIZE BEFORE PARLIAMENT, AND IT IS WIDELY BELIEVED THAT HE WILL GIVE JACQUI SMITH THE BOOT. THE SAVAGE DREAM

I have a dream. I have a dream that one day free men and women will be judged not on the correctness of their political views, but on the content of their character. I have a dream that all the mindless mandarins that plague the body politick in all nations will be driven out of all their little cubicles in all massive faceless government buildings around the world. I have a dream that they will be made to answer for all the vile petty judgments that they have placed on others. That they will be called to account for all the careers and livelihoods that they have taken away. That they will reap the just rewards of all the suicidal insanity that they have sown.

I have a dream that one day, all the people of the world will rise up and throw off the shackles that small-minded malcontents have placed on them, and that they will be free to enjoy the fruits of their own labor and their own ideas in a way they best see fit. I have a dream that one day I will sail a ship filled with such men and women, those with free and open minds, on the same route over the Atlantic Ocean taken by American convoys as they went to resupply the British in World War Two and fortify them against the Nazi menace.

I have a dream that this ship will land in England, dock in England, and I will set foot on British soil, and say, “Tear down this wall that you have placed before me. Tear down this wall against freedom of speech.” And I have a dream that then the people of England, inspired by the glory of their fathers before them, will stand up, tear down the wall of ignorance which has stood against them for so long, and declare with one voice “This is the land of Winston Churchill once more.”


THE SAVAGE EFFECT

We have talked about how the midstream media picked up the story of Michael Savage being banned from Britain. How even the liberal CNN started talking about it right away. How the leftist media of Great Britain was introduced to Michael Savage at one fell swoop, and how Fixed News under unrelenting pressure from its viewers, finally had to deal with the story even though Bill O’Reilly only grudgingly mentioned my name.

What we’re finding out now though is that an online revolution of sorts was triggered by Jacqui Smith’s decision to ban me from Britain. According to Foreign Policy magazine, it created a viral tsunami which completely defeated the intent of the British government’s attempt to suppress my freedom of speech. Websites such as Facebook, Youtube and Twitter came alive with commentary about the Savage ban. According to a website that tracks discussions on Twitter, conversations about Michael Savage and his being banned from Britain hit a huge spike the day after the travel ban was announced. Foreign Policy magazine even coined a new term “The Savage Effect,” which it describes as a phenomenon in which efforts to limit the dissemination of information in the analog form backfire and are trumped by the viral power of digital communications.

So by trying to strike me down, they have made me more powerful. By trying to push me off the old line forms of media communication, they have only made me that much more popular in new forms. What they failed to understand is that though for a short time they may be able to control the midstream media and who comes into the country, they cannot control the new Samizdat, the new literature that the mainstream establishment considers to be subversive. The Internet and talk radio is something that they will never be able to suppress.

Letter from America

Dear Madam,

My name is (name withheld). I am a British National, passport number is -----. I currently reside in Los Angeles, California, in the United States as a Green Card Holder and have lived here for 11 years.

In the 11 years as a resident of California I listen to Dr. Michael Savage's talk radio show everyday if possible. I can categorically state that I agree with every opinion, belief and notion Dr. Savage has expressed through his radio show, written word and articles. I have made financial donations to his Freedom of Speech Legal Fund and will continue to do so and have bought a number of his best-selling books. I am a practicing Catholic who strongly believes in the right to bear arms under the United States Constitution although I am not permitted to own a fire arm under U.S. Law as a Resident Alien.

I am a member of the RNC membership no. ----. I am vehemently opposed to gay marriage and voted YES on Propostition 8 in the State of California and have openly demonsrtrated in Santa Monica against same-sex marriage. I am a strong anti-abortion advocate and have attended many protests outside abortion clinics in Houston, TX, and here in California. I am totally opposed to illegal immigration here in the U.S. and the United Kingdom. I object to the violent blood-thirsty religion of Islam, and it is my belief that there is faction of fanatical muslims inciting violence in the United Kingdom who wish to overthrow the government of Great Britain. I strongly object to liberalism and oppose the Labor Government and the Democratic Government of the United States.

As a result of Dr. Michael Savage's ban on entering the U.K. due to being put on a "Least Wanted" list by yourself, I would like to know if the British Government will revoke my Passport and deny me entry to the U.K. due to my affiliation to Dr. Savage and as my thoughts and beliefs are aligned with his.

I demand an immediate response to my enquiry and furthermore demand your resignation as Home Secretary with a stipulation of a written apology on behalf of the British people to Dr. Savage. I will be making a financial contribution to Dr. Savage's legal fund in the lawsuit of defamation against yourself and your affiliates. You have brought shame and embarrasemt to me personally as a British citizen, and I will make it my mission to see that you and your ilk are brought to justice to the full extent to the law.

Savage Bio

Michael Savage was given the Freedom of Speech Award by Talkers Magazine in 2007.

Savage graduated from Jamaica High School in Queens, New York then attended Queens College, in New York City where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Education. After college Savage taught high school science for several years in New York City before training as a scientist.

Savage earned his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in Epidemiology and Nutritional Ethno-Medicine in 1978. Savage also holds two Master’s degrees in Medical Botany and Medical Anthropology from the University of Hawaii. He spent decades searching and saving tropical rainforests.

Savage created the phrase "Compassionate Conservative" in 1994. He has used this concept in his radio program and in conducting the first of four hugely successful Compassionate Conservative Conventions bearing that name in 1995.
